Tough Road Defeat for Skillcentre ‘A’ at Corinthians ‘C’
Skillcentre ‘A’ faced a challenging away fixture on October 20 at Ipswich School, coming up short in a 6-3 defeat against a formidable Corinthians ‘C’ side.
Andrew Farn and Mike Florey were our top scorers on the night, battling hard to pull in 1.5 points for the squad. After grinding out a split in the second round, they found their rhythm in their final matchup to completely dismantle the home third string with a commanding 21-14, 21-10 sweep.
Richard Calver and Jason Lewis also showcased fantastic grit, fighting tooth and nail to secure splits in their first two rounds. They showed immense character under pressure, bouncing back from first-game deficits to steal dramatic second games 23-21 and 21-19. They very nearly forced a third split against the formidable home first string, but narrowly dropped a nail-biting second game 23-21. Bobby and Tom McLaren got us on the board early as well, earning a hard-fought split against the home third pair after taking a strong opening game 21-16.
Ultimately, the Corinthians top pairing of Warren Poole and Vienesh Ganesan proved too much to handle. They were a wall on the night, sweeping all three of our pairs in straight games to firmly keep the overall victory in the home team’s hands.
